FIRST THURSDAY OF ADVENT
SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 22:1-19
Isaac, the long-awaited son of Abraham and Sarah, represents the fulfillment of God’s promise to make Abraham the father of many nations. His birth was a miracle, showing that nothing is impossible for God. Isaac's life points to God’s faithfulness and the trust we are called to place in Him.
One
of the most profound moments in Isaac's story is when God tested Abraham’s
faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. As they climbed Mount Moriah, Isaac
carried the wood for the altar, not knowing he was to be the sacrifice. Abraham
obeyed God fully, trusting in His plan, and at the last moment, God provided a
ram to take Isaac’s place.
This
story foreshadows Jesus, the Lamb of God, who carried the wood of the cross and
became the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world. Isaac’s near-sacrifice
points to God’s love and provision, reminding us of the depth of His plan to
redeem humanity through His Son.
